About the lecturer:
Pavla writes about science for the general public. She originally studied Clinical Biochemistry (MSc) and Chemistry Teaching (BSc) at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague and completed her PhD in Neuroscience at the Third Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. During her Fulbright internship at Northwestern University in Chicago, however, she discovered that she wanted to work in science communication. After her return, she interned in the science departments at Czech TV and Czech Radio. Since March 2020, she has been working as a science journalist at Forum, the Charles University magazine. As a freelancer, she also writes about science for various online and print media outlets.
She is the co-author of the first book about Science communication in Czech, Bioléčiva (“Biodrugs”), a textbook for students, and Do Formy, a book about healthy living. In September 2022, she was awarded the Dimitris N. Chorafas Prize for PhD graduates, and in September 2024, she was the laureate of the Council Chairman’s Award for the Promotion or Popularization of Research, Experimental Development and Innovation.
Pavla volunteers with Czexpats in Science – an initiative connecting Czech scientists with international experience, as well as at the Mindfulness Research and Practice Network of Masaryk University, which promotes and researches science-based mindfulness.
